Caramelized Onion, Pear, Balsamic Pork Chops

I had a few extra pears from drying fruit, and I love using fruit in savory foods, so I decided to find a way to use them with the pork chops we had for dinner tonight. Pork chops are great on their own and this topping paired quite well! Delicious flavor and juiciness!

  • 4 pork chops
  • salt
  • pepper
  • garlic powder
  • 2 tbs butter
  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 pears, chopped
  • 1 tsp salt

  • Heat balsamic vinegar in a small saucepan until boiling. Cook 10 minutes until reduced by half
  • Heat the butter in a frying pan on medium-high heat. Add onions to pan and lightly brown. Reduce heat to medium and cook onions until lightly caramelized. Add chopped pears, vinegar, and salt. Stir until coated for 2 minutes.
  • Liberally coat both sides of pork chops with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Grill or bake the pork chops however you prefer (I’ll post my favorite method of cooking pork chops sometime soon).
  • Top with the pear mixture and serve.

I made this for Sunday dinner and it was a big hit with my family. I have a family of quite sophisticated gourmets and we all enjoyed this entree. I served the chops with jasmine rice, asparagus and a spring greens salad. We enjoyed a Smoking Loon 2012 Merlot with the chops and it was a great combination. Thank you for this recipe it will be added to the must repeat section of my recipes.
